Still no MMS on the iPhone. What’s up ATT?

mms-noIt’s been over a month now since iPhone 3.0 was released. WE ARE STILL WAITING ON MMS!! ATT what are you doing?? We were all hoping that “later this summer” did not mean September. Well, now it’s almost August. How hard could it possibly be? What do they have to do different to enable MMS on the iPhone when every other phone that ATT sells is already capable of MMS. I heard a rumor a while ago that they have to manually go through each and every iPhone account and provision it to allow MMS. Now that would be just silly! Someone write a script!

I can absolutely believe that they want to make sure that their network is ready. I mean, we know there’s at least 1 million iPhone’s out there (much more actually), and you know as soon as they say “Ok, MMS is on!” we are all going to try to send one at the same time.  That could certainly crash the network. Plus, I have been thinking about the way the 3Gs currently does video. I think that there will be something in the iPhone 3.1 or a carrier update that will automatically shrink the video to enable it to be sent as an MMS. Right now the files are huge and take forever to send over email. Or possibly when you flip the record switch you can choose whether or not the video will be used as an MMS. But how long have they known this was coming??

I can’t wait to see exactly how this is going to work. I am also hoping for the 3G users that Apple/ATT will have a change of heart and enable video on those units since we all know that it can indeed support video (Cycorder).

I agree with you Littletechgirl. Most people seem content to pay $20 for an unlimited text plan without any MMS ability. Even AT&T reps say it isn’t fair to pay that amount because all unlimited SMS packages include MMS. I really think AT&T’s network is held together with rusty paper clips and old masking tape. They should just honestly say “look we cannot handle what this phone is capable of doing, and will provide a discount on your service since we cannot fulfill our contractual agreement.”

I doubt that will every happen, but if you get the right rep on the phone, a lot of things can happen.
