Impression 10 Tablet Review

Not too long ago I wrote a review of the Impression 7 tablet computer. The Impression series by Leader International is a low cost tablet option for those wanting to get a tablet, but who cannot afford to pay the $499 or so that most higher end tablets cost. The Impression 7 can be found for only $99. It’s big brother, the Impression 10 boasts more features and it can be found for around $279.

While the Impression 7 has a resistive touchscreen (pressurized), the Impression 10 steps up to the plate with a capacitive touch which is what we are used to in the other tablets on the market. It makes navigating much smoother. And the response time is faster. In terms of the specs, some items are the same as the 7″, while others exceed.

A capacitive touch screen measures the interaction between an electrical signal on a transparent grid above the screen and the users finger. Its super high resolution supports up to 180degrees of viewing angle. To operate, all you need is your finger, and not any pressure Anywhere you touch, flick or tap.

While this tablet is better on specs, I still had a few problems with it. As previously mentioned, Google Apps (Android Market, Gmail, etc.) are not included. I had trouble trying to install them manually using the APK. And a huge disappointment for me is that I was unable to get Netflix to run. On the 7″ version it did run, although it did not look good. On this one I cannot even get it to run. A Google search shows that it is a common problem with this tablet. Bummer.

Pros

  • Much better screen than its little brother, the Impression 7
  • Large, responsive screen
  • USB Ports for transferring data
  • SD Card Slot

Cons

  • Google Apps Not Included
  • Difficulty installing Google apps
  • Netflix won’t run

While this tablet does a little better over the previous one, I think that Impression missed the mark a bit. There are too many bugs for me to give it high marks. I would say this is likely software related.  Of course each manufacturer has the ability to create their own build of the Android OS, and it is not always what we expect. This one could use a few fixes and tweaks.

If you stick with the software available in the included in the SlideME App store, you should be ok. There are thousands of apps available there. But attempting to go against the norm and install Google Apps may run you into trouble.

Disclosure: The Impression 10 tablet was provided to me in exchange for this review.

  1. Taking my i10 back….thought i could install netflix. Not worth it for my 7 year old grandson if he cant watch netflix.

  2. Can you install pictures from a separate camera to the impression? Would you need a driver to do so? I pluged in my cable to the usb nothing happened yet.
