If you are in charge of a business or brand which uses social media as a free means of marketing to many millions of people, you are not alone. Brands use social media to connect with current and potential customers. Bloggers use social media to connect with readers. Customers use social media to quickly get through to companies and ask support questions, or get deals on new products. It’s a win, win for all. However, the other side of the issue is that businesses may have a lot of competition, and you need to learn how to deal with that. If you are using social media as a means of marketing your business, then you need to make sure you are doing everything in your power to stand out and make it as effective as possible.

Below are 3 of the main ways that you can dramatically improve your brands’s Twitter feed in order to gain more followers, and hopefully, more customers.

Work On Your Twitter Profile

The profile page is actually one of the most important parts of all. People go there to discover what your brand is all about, so if you think about it this is really just a great opportunity to push your brand. With that in mind, take a minute to look at your profile page. If it’s been a while since you updated, you may need to update your information. You may have let one or two things creep in that are not really your brand image; if this is so, try your hardest to replace them with something more brand-loyal. Need to update your Twitter banner? Try an easy Twitter banner maker to get the job done. With any luck, these efforts should result in your brand receiving more click-throughs.

Be sure to fill out as much info as you want them to know abut you and your business: your website address, a good description of your brand, and your location for starters.

Interact More

This one can be tough, but it’s key. Social media is meant to be just that – social. If your business’ Twitter feed is full of nothing but links, and no interaction, then I’m afraid to say that you are doing it wrong. You should be aiming to interact with your fellow Twitter followers. At first, it doesn’t matter too much who you respond to, just make sure you are being an active force on the website and people will automatically be more drawn to you. Interaction is the name of the game, make sure you are playing it properly. One tip is to search for and follow hashtags related to your industry. Once you find something interesting, jump in and start chatting! That’s what so great about Twitter. It’s the one place where you are allowed to butt into conversations and talk to a bunch of strangers. 🙂 You may make some great new friends. I know I have.

Share Your Blog Posts

We talked about not over-sharing. Meaning… don’t share only your links. But, ultimately you are looking to generate more links back to your own website, so you need to make sure you are using plenty of opportunities to do so. This means linking frequently to pieces on your website in such a way that it makes sense and people don’t feel like you are bombarding them. This can be a tricky balance to get right, but with a little practice you will soon have more visitors than ever before, and a busier feed as well. This is a good sign that you are on the right trick with your social media usage as a business. With any luck, this will soon grow and grow until the whole thing is serving you much more than ever before.

One thing I have noticed is that instead of just sharing a link with the title only, if I write a little intro, it generates more attention and turns it into a conversation. I need to be sure to do this more on new posts.
