I am a bit late writing this because I just returned from (ironically) a technology trip. I was at dinner with AMD on Wednesday when I saw the news posted on Facebook. At first we hoped it was just another rumor, but I Googled and found the news posted on ABC News. Then, I headed over to Apple.com just to be sure. And yep, it was real. A strange feeling came over me. I do not consider myself an “Apple Freak” although I do own quite a few devices from Apple. But, I have never been one to argue with another up and down about Apple being better. However, I had mad respect for Steve Jobs and what he accomplished. And if you are human chances are that you know who Steve Jobs was. If you are a techy chances are that you may feel a personal connection to the man that started Apple Computers back in 1976. I was just about to turn 2 at the time, but as far as I am concerned Apple has always been a part of my life.
Steve Jobs passed away Wednesday, October 5, 2011 after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. His legacy lives on in the many, many products that he helped develop. We will always remember his trademark black turtleneck, jeans, and sneakers that he wore for each packed press conference. He was an icon for sure, and now only for his fashion choices. 🙂
Since it happened I have watched tons of coverage about his life. I learned many, many things that I did not know. I even caught a bit of the Pirates of Silicon Valley which I had never seen before. The more I learned, the more respect I gained for him. He was human. He was brilliant. He was a leader.
R.I.P Steve. You will be missed.
