Thank you to Kingston for sponsoring this review. Please click here to learn more about Kingston. I was selected for this sponsorship by the Clever Girls Collective. All opinions are my own.

I have written before about my addiction (problem) to USB keys. There are just so many interesting ones out there now. It’s an awesome marketing tool. I have collected quite a few (an understatement) from various places. I am currently working on a display project with them that i will share with you later. But, despite how cool and cute some are, they are very, very useful. These are great for transferring data, backing up important files, or just carrying frequently used files from one place to another.

The Kingston DT109 loaded with urDrive goes beyond your typical data storage. Of course you can store your files on it. But, it includes much more.  The first thing that you will notice about the urDrive is the size.

It is only about 1.5″ long and 1/2″ wide. It includes a large loop to be used on a keychain or necklace, etc. I personally would never put a USB key on my keychain. I would be too afraid that it would get beat up.

The model that I received is very tiny DT109 in 8gb. It is also available in 16gb and in various colors such as orange, black, green, pink, blue, gray, and white. You could get one for each member of the family in a different color so there are no mix-ups. 🙂

The urDrive includes preloaded software to help you with a variety of tasks. Most programs included are designed to be run from the urDrive wherever you are. You get Norton PC Checkup, a  web browser that allows you browse the web securely and save your bookmarks to access them from any PC, vdrive backup software which includes 6GB of free online storage, Fooz kids software for kids which I recently reviewed, games, and an app store to discover and download more apps for the urDrive. Also included are links for Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter.

There is also a file browser for browsing your files that are saved on the drive.

View the video below for more info on how urDrive works:

The Giveaway:

One lucky winner will receive a Kingston prize including five 8GB DT109’s loaded with urDrive software. This prize pack is valued at just over $50.

Want to win?  We will keep this one easy. Just leave a comment below telling me what you will do with your drives.

The giveaway will end on Wed, November, 23, 2011.

I’m with you – you can never have too much storage! That said, one of
these is enough storage to hold all the My Little Ponies episodes we’ve
saved, and which my grandson loves to watch over and over and over!

I would use to store my large family size photos.  Easy transfer for the grandparents when we visit to store on their computers.

Seems like every month someone in the family is asking for a flash drive. Last month a found one for my daughter, she’d lost some time ago. This month, my husband was looking for the same flash drive. “Not yours, honey. Check on top of the armoire. You can have that one.” It would be really nice if they could keep track of theirs on a key chain. Of course, then they’d probably lose the key chain. haha.

I would use one solely for my lectures. I like being able to bookmark stuff with the loaded browser. That’s a perfect way to organize bookmarks I come across for lectures.
I could also have a dedicated recipe flash drive.

    Thanks for your giveaway
There are 5 drives. I would be giving 1 each to my parents & bro, leaving just 2 for me.

For those 2 I would use 1 as backup of my important data, which is very dear to me. The other 1 I would be using for sharing photos, documents, personal data and my music.

I liked the ring to put it in a key chain, so that it’s very handy to carry with me.

So do I get it form you?

    Thanks/Grr

I’d use it to keep a consistent set of documents with me as I move from work, to home, to the parents, etc. and use any one of a dozen or so computers.

I would love this little USB key.  I might put it on my work keychain, but I’m not sure.  I would use the drives to basically organize my life all in one place.  I use Dropbox, but I really like the browser capability that this guy offers and the organization possibilities have me SOLD!  I would keep my pictures (home and work) so that I can upload them whenever I need to and never have to wait.  I would use it for updating work files at home and use the online storage to free space for me elsewhere!  I would look into the apps for calendar features and reminders as well as all the apps I use on my Smart Phone…work out, recipes, kid stuff, and helping me stay/get organized!  Woohoo…add this to your Christmas list!
