Samsung Rugby Smart Review + My Smartphone Horror Story

April 18, 2012 by Kris McDonald Leave a Comment

Enter to win a Samsung Rugby Smart.

We all have at least one smartphone horror story. That time when your 2 year old dunked your phone in the toilet. Or, when your dog slobbed all over it. Why is it that these horror stories usually involve water? For me, my horror story involved a parking lot and a rain puddle. And this actually was not the first time that I had a phone go bonkers due to a problem with moisture. I mean think about it… we carry our phones EVERYWHERE. Sure, if you know you are going to be exposed to moisture you would try to avoid the situation and not have your phone there. However, accidents happen. My fear was always that I was going to get caught in the rain, and my phone that was safely in my purse or pocket where it should be would still get ruined. Then there are the Chicago summers where the temp can sometimes hit 100 degrees with 100% humidity and just walking outside makes you bust out in a sweat. A phone in your pocket could be the lucky recipient of moisture then too. However,  If I had a Samsung Rugby Smart, I might not have had to worry at all.

The Samsung Rugby is a phone created to go up against most everything that you and your kids can throw at it. Not only is the Rugby smart a great smartphone, it is tough. The Rugby is shockproof, waterproof, and dustproof. The exterior is designed to protect against humidity and water. The back cover seals the battery compartment and there are protectors for the USB port and headphone jack. All of that provides extra protection over what most smartphones offer to make your phone perfect for normal use and situations where the phone may be exposed to moisture unexpectedly.

Check out this video to hear me talk about what happened to my phone and how the Samsung Rugby Smart can help you.

The Samsung Rugby runs on AT&T's 4g network. This means that the data connection is fast. The AT&T 4g connection is pretty strong where I live. I downloaded the Speedtest.net app to run a few speed tests. As you can see the speed varies a bit, but it is still good and fast.

Unlike some other phones popular right now, the Rugby actually has physical buttons for the Menu, Home, Back and search. This takes a little getting used to, but actually makes it easier to navigate with one hand.

Although some call it bulky, I don't mind a phone with a little weight on it. It feels well made and strong. I also like the textured surface on the back. It makes it easier to hold on to.

The Samsung Rugby Smart is the perfect smartphone for a teen, a construction worker, someone who works near water, a person who is blessed with being clumsy, or something who is just more comfortable knowing that their phone is protected.

The Rugby Smart can be purchased from AT&T for $99.99 with 2 year contract.

Disclosure: The phone was provided to me in exchange for this review. All opinions are my own.
