Not too long ago, in my post, Texting & Driving – It Can Wait, I told you about how here in Chicago as we drive the expressways we are greeted by alarming traffic signs. I don’t just mean the signs that tell us how many minutes it will take to get to the Dan Ryan. I mean the sign that tells us how many traffic deaths have been reported. The state started a program to raise awareness about the dangers of distracted driving last year. In 2012 I watched the number rise from just over 400 to the alarming final total.
Yes, that says 957. That is the total number of deaths in the state of Illinois in 2012. That is a lot. That is too many. So far in 2013 there have been 134 traffic related deaths. Today is only March 1. That number needs to come down…. way down. It is sad.
AT&T still has an awesome campaign to teach drivers the importance of waiting to read that text, IM, Facebook status, tweet, etc. Your life is more important than any text.
