When I first looked at the agenda for the Essence Fest 2013 and saw what I would be covering as official press one of the things that stuck out to me was a meet and greet with Laz Alonso. Most recently, I became a fan of his while watching Deception. You may also know him from Avatar, Breakout Kings, Jumping the Broom, Southland, and Fast and Furious to name a few. In my opinion he is a underrated actor. He is very versatile. We have seen him portray roles ranging from a thug and drug dealer to a police detective. And of course it does not hurt that he is very, very easy on the eyes. 🙂
His latest movie, Battle of the Year, brings back the flavor of Stomp the Yard with a twist. This time the dancing is going global. The movie hits theatres in September of this year.
Verizon Wireless, one of the major sponsors of Essence Fest,  had Laz on tap to talk to the fans about being Black in Hollywood.  We were allowed us to sit down with Laz to ask a few questions. We chatted it up about bootleg movies, cars, and much more.
Talking to him was like talking to a normal, everyday, down to earth guy that we don’t see on TV from week to week. Check out the video below for the complete group interview.
