3D Printing
When you hear the term “3D Printing” you may envision looking at a piece of paper with funny looking glasses on to see an image jump off the page. Well, even though that visual totally makes sense (and it’s funny – we love those fashionable glasses don’t we?) that is not what it is. 🙂
The official definition of 3D printing is “a process for making a physical object from a three-dimensional digital model, typically by laying down many successive thin layers of a material.” In English, 3D Printing describes the act of using a machine (the printer) to actually form and build an object from an image programmed into a computer. Over the past year or so 3D printing has really taken off in the consumer space. The price of printers are coming down, so that we can actually start having them in our homes.
Imagine making new toys on the fly. Or, business users can make 3D models of their products to better determine if the object will work on a larger scale. Mother’s could help kids create the ultimate science fair exhibit. Or, doctors could create models of human bones to better demonstrate fractures. The possibilities are wide.
