A few days ago I took some time to alter the mobile theme for this website. It was something that I should have done long ago. The theme that I use is awesome. It has a built-in responsive mobile theme. And the modular design lets you move everything and tweak things to just about exactly how you want it. However, I had been so busy that I had not taken the time to edit the mobile portion of my theme. When the site loaded instead of the most important part, the content, loading first it was instead loading the sidebar ahead of the content. That was keeping my readers from seeing what they came to the site for, and probably annoying a few people.
With the knowledge that more and more people are browsing the web from their mobile now it is very important to make sure that your site is optimized to look good and be user friendly on a mobile device. The below guest post tells us why.
As the world changes, technologies change with it, and these days more and more people are using mobile devices to browse the internet. The great thing about smart phones is that they allow people to browse the internet wherever they are, any time, day or night. This means that it is becoming increasingly important to have a mobile optimized website, otherwise you could find that you start to lose would-be customers to another brand that has a mobile friendly website. Here are 5 reasons why it’s time to get a mobile optimized website up and running for your business.
More Traffic
Let’s face it, there is no point having a website if nobody comes to it. The idea of having a website is that it brings traffic to it, and therefore customers to your business. If people are using their smart phone to browse, and they come across your website with tiny writing that they have trouble reading on the smart phone screen, they will be more likely to click on, than battle through trying to read a website that has not been mobile optimized.
Quicker Load Time
Having a mobile optimized website will mean that if someone goes to it using their smart phone, it will automatically show the page in a simpler format. A simple, mobile optimized format can have just as much information as your regular website, but it has a quicker load time. Often when someone is using a mobile device they don’t have a lot of time, and want to quickly get the information they need and move on. If they click onto your site and it takes ages to load up, they will click on to another option that can get the info to them quicker, and you may have lost a customer.
Visitors Stick Around
Similarly, if the customer clicks on your website and it loads up easily, is clear and easy to read, they are more likely to hang around and look at your website. This will mean that they are more likely to actually get to the action point where they are calling you to enquire about your business.
Branding Will Stand Out
When looking at a regular website on the smaller screen of a smart phone, the whole thing is a lot smaller and less easy to read than on the larger screen on the computer. As a result, if you do not have a mobile optimized website your branding is shrunk a lot smaller than it would be on the big screen. This means that you are wasting the valuable opportunity to get your brand out there and could mean that you lose customers.
People Will Read Your Content
If your website is a content heavy one, you will want people to actually read the information on the site, so having a mobile optimized website will ensure that they are able to do this comfortably. If they find that they are unable to read the content there is more likelihood that they will click on to a site where they can.
Optimising your website for the smaller mobile screen requires the attention of a professional web design company such as Simple – as a poorly optimized site will lead to an inferior user experience; your bounce rate will skyrocket and users will desert your site in favour of a competitor with a better mobile experience.
