The future is here! WiFi in the car? Yes, please! Imagine the possibilities…
It was not too long ago we never would have imagined that one day we would be able to navigate where we were going in our cars. We never would have thought about connecting our smartphones to our cars to take calls. But times have changed. Now we have that and much more. And Chevrolet is taking it either farther. They are becoming the first car company to offer full 4G LTE WiFi in their cars, trucks, and crossover vehicles! How cool is that?
As a matter of fact, earlier this year during the Chicago Auto Show I had the pleasure of attending a Chevrolet event to check out some of the new vehicles equipped with WiFi. This this smoking HOT red Corvette? Yep, it has OnStar 4G LTE WiFi built-in.
If you are looking for more of a family vehicle this very nice Black Chevrolet Impala also has built-in OnStar 4G LTE WiFi.
The cars have music apps like Pandora and iHeartRadio available via the touch screen. No need to stream through your phone. Other apps can be installed as they are developed. This leaves your smartphone free for calls! And having a 4G LTE WiFi hotspot built in to you car provides a better signal and therefore better experience than connecting via your phone.
You can see on the screenshot of my phone below, that the two cars were broadcasting WiFi signals.
I love road trips, but sometimes they can be a pain with a car full of kids. Well imagine keeping your family busy while on road trips. Since you can connect up to 7 devices, everyone is covered. Most kids these days have some type of smartphone, tablet, or gaming device that is equipped with WiFi anyway. So instead of them bickering over what music to listen to, or what movie to watch each person can put on their headphones and use their own device. This means that your daughter can watch YouTube, your son can stream a movie on Netflix, and another son can play a game online. Of course this technology is geared towards passengers. Your eyes should stay on the road. And since all your kids are occupied, you get to drive in peace and quiet! 🙂
I also spend time working in my car quite often. Sometimes I arrive at my kid’s school early and have time to kill. And sometimes I have time between appointments. Rather sit in a cold and noisy cafe I like to sit in my car where I can make calls in private. Having my own WiFi hotspot in my car means that I would be able to work from anywhere using my tablet, or even my laptop.
OnStar 4G LTE WiFi works over the AT&T network so you get a wide range of coverage. And it’s easy to use. Just like any other WiFi once you set it up, it is ready to go! Each time you go back to your car your devices will automatically connect.
Right now, 4G LTE is available on the 2015 Malibu and the 2015 Impala. It is coming soon to other cars including the Spark, Sonic, Cruze Volt, Corvette, Suburban, Tahoe, Equinox, and more.
How would you and your family use 4G LTE in your car?
Chevrolet is merging the physical freedom of the car with the virtual freedom of Wi-Fi to become the first and only car company to bring built in 4G LTE Wi-Fi to the largest vehicle line-up. Visit http://s.chevy.com/TBX Â to learn more.
