The world is a very diverse place. This is especially true here in the United States. Just here in the Chicago area there are communities for every culture. There are also very diverse communities like the Hyde Park area where you can easily meet someone from every corner of the world in a few block radius. I have always loved that about Chicago. I love learning about different cultures, and it is always interesting to see how other cultures celebrate their heritage. The Diwali celebration, known to most as the Festival of LIghts, is one of the most important Hindu festivals and Best Buy recognizes this.

Diwali, celebrated in October or November each year, was originally a festival that marked the last harvest of the year before winter. Although it started as a festival to mark the end of a financial year for businesses, it has become much more. Diwali celebrates the triumph of inner lights dispelling spiritual darkness or ignorance, right over wrong, and good over evil. This year the Diwali celebration is on November 11.

Indians celebrate with family gatherings, by lighting clay lamps, fireworks, strings of electric lights, bonfires, flowers, sharing, worship, and celebrating with family and friends. Many communities around the world also celebrate. A quick Google search brought up several planned celebrations in my area. I have always been a huge fan of Hindu dance… the costumes, the precision, and the colors are all very beautiful. And the music is fantastic. I can just imagine how amazing it would be to attend a Diwali celebration.
