Writing this post has been hard. It has taken me a bit longer to complete it than I anticipated. It’s been bittersweet. When Intel sent me this HP 15.6″ Silver Fusion laptop to gift someone special to me, I knew right away that it would go to my mother. I planned to give it to her as a housewarming gift after her move at the end of March. Her own laptop was pretty old and slow, and her desktop gave up quite a while ago. However, as you already know my mom passed unexpectedly during her move, so before I could give her the laptop.
I still wanted to gift the laptop to someone special that could really use and appreciate it. I decided on my ex-mother-in-law. I have known her since I was 17 years old. That’s 26 years. Even before she was a grandmother to my children she was like a 2nd mom to me. It was her house that I escaped to as a teen when I needed a little time away. It was her that I called to vent and get advice when I just didn’t feel like my mom was getting me. And just because my marriage to her son ended, it does not mean that my relationship with her ended. It’s quite the opposite. She is my kid’s grandmother. She is family. Period. After school each day my boys walk to her house. She feeds them. She takes care of them. She does all of the things a loving grandmother would do. And she does things for me as well. I called her from the hospital while I waited to hear about my mom. She was there with me when I got the news. And I love her for it. She is well-deserving of a special gift.
Her current desktop computer was a Pentium 4 that her son brought home from work ages ago. I believe it still has Windows 98! It’s just not very useful anymore. She complains about it all the time. She needed a more reliable machine, and I was happy to be able to provide her with one.
This HP 15.6″ has an Intel Core i3 processor, 8GB of RAM, and a 1TB hard drive. That is WORLDS better than that old Pentium 4. She will be able to browse the web, pay bills, and more importantly… create documents for her homeowner’s association without complaining. There was many a phone call!
My kids told me that I could not give it to her while they were at school, so I waited. With everything going on, it took a little longer to get it to her than I hoped. Being a computer technician by trade, I don’t just hand them off. I open up the box, ensure that everything is there, install any apps that I know the person will need, and install malware protection and virus protection if it did not come with the computer.
With this one, I did not have to do much. It’s a solid machine, with great specs and software.

I gifted her with it on my own birthday. What? I like giving, even if it is my birthday. 🙂 She was sooo happy! She said that she has come up to the 21st century. LOL!
We left the laptop with her and headed off for a busy weekend. When we spoke to her on Monday she said that she had not yet played with it, because she did not know how to turn it on. LOL! How cute is that? Luckily my 10-year-old sons were able to rescue her. They showed her how to turn it on, how to access Google Docs to type her documents, and more. I even got a few IMs from my son during the process asking questions about what they should select during the setup of certain apps. It’s awesome to have little smarties!
She has been using her laptop just about a month now, and with help from my kids, she is getting the hang of using a laptop rather than a desktop. And she is getting used to having a computer with a screen that she can touch.
It really makes me feel good to be able to gift her with something that makes her so happy, and something that she can use. And of course, it’s not only a great gift for mothers. It’s a great gift for those graduating from high school or college. And it’s a great laptop for a Dad that you may want to upgrade. 8gb of RAM means that they will have plenty of memory for running applications. 1TB of hard drive space means there is plenty of space to install applications like Microsoft Office 365, Adobe Photoshop, or other applications needed for work or school.
And unlike many other laptops on the market right now, the HP Silver Fusion comes with a SuperMulti DVD burner, so that the user can watch movies, or create CDs and DVDs.
Does gift giving make you happy too? You can gift someone that you care about with a HP 15.6″ Silver Fusion Laptop. It’s available at Walmart for the great price of only $359.00.
Disclosure: This post is sponsored by Intel. They provided me with the laptop and compensation for this post. All opinions are my own.
