As you already know, I love cars! If I was rich I would be in trouble because I would have like 4 different cars. Because of my love of cars I love attending auto shows. I have attended both the Chicago Auto Show, and NAIAS (the North American International Auto Show), multiple times. There is something about that new car smell x 100 that just gets to me. Unfortunately, I missed last year’s Chicago Auto Show because I just had way too much going on to attend. I’m excited to make it back this year on behalf of the Steel Market Development Institute and A Girls Guide to Cars.
There are a few favorites that I am very excited to see. I have mentioned before that although I love it, I’m just about ready to upgrade my 2012 Ford Explorer! I have already drooled over the previous year’s models. I cannot wait to check out the 2018 model. I’m also excited to see the new offerings of steel-intensive vehicles like the Chevrolet Traverse, Kia Stinger, Volkswagon Atlas, and Buick Envision.
I just found out that there are more than 200 grades of steel, many of which are used in various vehicle components, the frame and body structure of our cars. Wow! Steel means that vehicles are better built to protect drivers and passengers during a crash. A steel vehicle is a lot more durable than one made with aluminum.
There is a lot that goes into buying a new car. You need to look at the interior space, cargo space, body style, safety features, and more. And of course there is the cost. Once you find the right vehicle, you have to think about financing. How much will you apply as a down payment? How much of a monthly payment can you afford? Is your credit good enough to get the best rates?
I have mentioned before that I’m an SUV girl. Choosing the right one can be a task. But, at the Chicago Auto Show you can take pictures, check out SUVs from several different manufacturers, check out the cargo space, and take in that new car smell… all under one roof. And, even though it’s the dead of winter outside in Chicago, you can keep warm while taking in the sights. There are experts on hand to talk to you about the safety, efficiency, and features of each vehicle, and just what each one is made of. You cannot be swayed by just the looks of the vehicle. Knowing whether or not it will actually work for your family is very important.
I will be attending media days on February 8th and 9th. Watch my Instagram for tons of photos of pretty, shiny cars! Have a particular car that you want me to check out for you? Send me a tweet @LittleTechGirl!
The 2018 Chicago Auto Show runs from February 10-February 18, 2018 at McCormick Place. Tickets are $13 for adults, $7 for seniors and children over 7; children 6 and under are free. If you like cars and you have never been I really suggest that you check it out. It’s a great, fun day out for the family. And if you are in the market for a new car you cannot beat the Auto Show for finding just what you want. There’s a huge convention center full of cars, trucks, and SUVs for you viewing and touching pleasure.

Even though I just bought a car, I still enjoy going to the show. I really need more manufacturers to embrace Android auto and apple car play.
