How eCommerce Businesses Can Increase International Sales

Most eCommerce businesses make it possible for international customers to make orders, but most only do so as an afterthought, rather than treating it as a priority.

And that approach is costing the business sales. After all, the international market is much larger than the domestic market, but consumers in those regions won’t automatically become customers just because you’re there. They’ll need to be nurtured and brought into the fold just like your domestic customers.

If you already have an eCommerce website and you want to increase international sales, then this page is for you. We’ve put together a bunch of handy tips that should make your business more appealing to customers around the world.

Understand Who You’re Targeting

When we talk about making international sales, we’re not really talking about making sales all over the world. In reality, your products or services will likely only be of interest to certain international markets. It’s your job to figure out which regions those are. Once you have, you’ll find that it’s much easier to speak their language and refine your operations to cater to your new audience.

Localize Your Website

Some customers will be intrigued enough by your products that they’ll be happy to navigate your website as it is. But the majority of customers will want to feel as if the website they’re using has been put together with them in mind. Localizing your website so that it speaks to your new, international target audience will make your site and business more appealing. Remember that it’s not just about the language, but the general tone and style of the site. Customers from the UK, for example, will appreciate a different version of English from your USA customers (‘colour’ rather than ‘color,’ for example).

Get Smart About International Marketing

Of course, while it’s all good and well to have a website that speaks to international audiences, it’ll count for little if those potential customers are unable to find your website. Marketing your website is essential for attracting visitors and making sales. Since marketing is a little different in each country, it’s best to work with a company like international SEO agency Eskimoz that can localize your marketing efforts. They’ll ensure that you target keywords that are most likely to generate revenue.

Optimize Payment Processes

It takes a lot of work to get an international visitor to the stage where they’re ready to complete an order, so don’t lose them at the final hurdle! All too often, brands that venture into international markets miss out on sales all for one simple reason: they don’t optimize their payment processes to meet the expectations of their international customers. You can do this by understanding the preferred payment methods for customers in your target region and then making them available on your website.

You’ll also need to figure out the right shipping method. If selling general products, then dropshipping might be an option. If it’s your own products, then finding a balance between cost-effectiveness and speed is recommended.
