5 Ways a myQ Smart Garage Opener Can Make Life Easier

Not too long ago I told you about my awesome LiftMaster myQ-connected garage door openers. I am honestly not sure how we would function efficiently if we did not have them. We’ve been using them for almost 3 years, and I am so glad we opted to not get the regular non-smart garage openers from our builder.

Some people are very weary of smart home products, and I do understand. However, smart home devices can help many and provide peace of mind. Home automation was created to make our lives easier, help us perform tasks that may otherwise be difficult and allow more home security.

Here are 5 ways a myQ connected garage door opener can help your household:

No Keys for Kids to Lose

My kids split time between my house and their Dad’s house. There are 4 of them, and they are usually together, so no one has a set of keys to lose! I have a few stories about losing my key when I was younger – my favorite lost key story is when my friend lost his keys in the snow doing cartwheels. We looked all over and could not find them. Then one day in the Spring once all the snow had melted, there they were! Thanks to the myQ App, we do not have to worry about that. My kids can enter through the garage without a problem.

Give Out of Town Guests Access Without a Key

The holidays in our house mean guests! Our oldest daughter will be visiting from LA, and our 3rd oldest will be home from college for the week. Instead of worrying about giving everyone a set of actual keys, we can create users in the myQ App so that they each have access to open the garage door without the need for keys. This is perfect since the garage is our main point of entry! This way the girls can come and go as they please, and I can still keep tabs on the comings and going from my phone, and make sure that no one leaves the garage door open on their way in or out.

Have your Packages Delivered Securely

I get a lot of packages! Part of this is because of my blog work. Packages being left on my porch sometimes worries me. When I know that I will be away from home longer than usual, I can have a friend come by, open the garage for them, and they can stick the package inside. Click here to see if you are eligible for in-garage delivery with Amazon Prime. And now, with in-garage delivery, when I receive packages from Amazon, my packages can be left securely in the garage! By linking the myQ App with the AmazonKey App, a trusted Amazon delivery rep is able to open the garage, place the package inside and then close the garage door. I can monitor the whole thing from my phone, and even watch with the Amazon Cam (Key Edition). This will be very useful when I start ordering Christmas presents and decorations that need to be stashed! Click here to see if you are eligible for in-garage delivery with Amazon Prime.

Have Your Home Checked While Traveling

Sadly, we don’t have any travel plans this winter. There is too much going on here at home. However, we do travel a few times a year. And when we do, depending on how long we are gone, I sometimes have a friend come by and check on the house. It is awesome to be able to give her access through the myQ App without needing a physical key!

Home Automation

A few months ago I learned that the myQ App can also link with other smart home partners like Google Assistant, IFTTT, Apple HomeKit and many other smart home and security solutions. I connected mine to Google Home a few days ago. Now I can say things like, “Ok Google, Tell myQ to close the garage door.” Have more than one door like I do? Just say the name of your door from the myQ App. For example, “Ok Google, ask myQ if the large door is open.”

Are you one of the people not too sure if you want to make the leap to myQ Wi-Fi connected openers? Trust me, they will make your life easier. The myQ-connected openers are a great addition to any home, but especially for those that have multiple people coming and going, the elderly, or those that receive Amazon packages regularly.

Not in the market for a new garage door opener?  No worries, you can make your existing opener smart with a myQ Smart Garage Hub. Click here to check out the myQ Smart Garage Hub on Amazon.
