Is building a more comfortable home environment your main goal for 2022? You are not alone. The increased time spent at home during the pandemic has probably left you feeling a little bored with your current surroundings. When combined with the fact that your children are growing up fast, there has never been a better time to focus on upgrading the home.

While no two families are the same, most will find that the following ideas will create a better home setting. An array of immediate and long-term benefits for all the family should follow. Crucially, a happy home life is the perfect foundation for building a better quality of life in all aspects of your world.

What are you waiting for? Let’s get started.

Focus On A Good Night’s Sleep

The average adult should spend 7-9 hours sleeping each day while the figure for children is even higher. Therefore, you will spend more time in bed than in any other single place. If that doesn’t encourage you to make it the first item on your checklist, nothing will.

A good night’s sleep is particularly crucial for a child’s physical and mental development. So, finding suitable non toxic crib mattresses and suitable blankets will be crucial for babies and early toddlers. Ensuring that the drapes block out the light should be another priority. Adding a baby monitor will go a long way to keeping parents at ease.

Older kids can benefit from a high sleeper bed while parents should be sure to find a mattress firmness that meets their needs. When combined with the right pillows and duvet, a better 40 winks is assured.

Focus On Safety

It is impossible for adults to enjoy a home that doesn’t feel safe. Not least because it leaves your family in a potentially vulnerable position. Adding surveillance cameras and alarms is a great way to deter burglars and establish peace of mind.

However, the truth of the situation is that internal dangers are far more likely. Childproofing the home may include using foam covers on sharp edges to stop preschoolers from bumping their heads. Or you could opt for carpets instead of potentially slippery vinyl flooring. Losing glass doors and other potential hazards should also aid the cause.

A safe home is a happy home for all the family. Habitual steps like checking the fire alarms on a regular basis or switching to chemical-free cleaning tools can also have a big impact. Now is the time to fully embrace it.

Declutter

Most families wish that they could live in a bigger property. Sadly, the majority are guilty of failing to make the most of the space that they do possess. This is one issue that you must put right ASAP, starting with a thorough decluttering session.

Your decluttering session can include many steps. Switching to paperless billing and digital streaming services are a great starting point. Meanwhile, you can sell unwanted goods, including old children’s toys. In addition to clawing back valuable space around the home, it can generate some additional funds.

Losing bulky units for wall-mounted TVs or shelving can be another great option. Rooms will look bigger thanks to the added floor space while you’ll also find it easier to clean. Crucially, the home will be more accommodating for fun family activities.

Give Each Room A Purpose

In addition to saving valuable space in individual rooms, families must look to ensure that every room serves its purpose. A guest room that is only used twice per year by your in laws is a massive waste of potential. Transforming this space can add a new dimension.

In today’s climate, you will probably find that a home office is an ideal solution. If you work from home, it gives you a dedicated working environment. This can boost productivity while it also creates a mental barrier between work and leisure. The ability to get on with your work while still being near to the kids is a wonderful thing. As is the lack of commuting.

The home office can also serve as a place for older children to complete their homework. We live in a world where computer literacy is a vital skill. If the home office doesn’t suit your needs, the unused space could become a new playroom or gym.

Encourage Health

It’s hard to enjoy the property when you are wrapped up on the sofa with an illness. So, any opportunity to build a home that promotes improved health should be grabbed with both hands. A water filter tap or jug is ideal. After all, hydration is crucial.

As the pandemic has shown, airborne viruses are a potential problem. Therefore, finding ways to maintain clean air in your home should be a priority. Regular cleaning is essential but you want to spend time enjoying the home rather than cleaning it. Dishwashers, robotic vacuums, and other modern appliances are your best friend.

Adopting green home upgrades is another great option. New windows and insulation can help prevent drafts while also boosting energy efficiency. Allowing more light into the home should also aid your mood. In turn, you will develop a better relationship with the home.

Embrace Family Time

One of the big problems facing modern families stems from the fact that they spend little time together. You may be under the same roof yet in different rooms interacting with gadgets. While it’s OK to do this at times, you need to enjoy the home as a family too.

A great way to do this is to create better communal living spaces. The lounge can become your home cinema and entertainment center. This way, you can watch the latest movies or play interactive video games as a family. This allows you to create magical memories in the home and feel closer as a family unit.

You can additionally look to turn daily tasks such as cooking into a hobby. Baking pizzas together, for example, can be a great way to help kids learn about cooking and healthy eating. Better still, they are moments you can cherish together.

Create Personal Luxury Spaces

While family time is a crucial part of building a better home life, you do need some alone time too. After all, modern life can be very stressful. The opportunity to sit back with a good book or listen to music while meditating can make a world of difference.

Perhaps most importantly, you need to build a winning bathroom setup. Learning how to boost the shower pressure is a very good option while you may want to consider a new bathtub. This may be especially important if you have additional needs with regards to accessibility. When supported by candles and the bath bombs, you will love it.

If nothing else, knowing that you have the option to return home and enjoy some extra comfort provides a source of comfort when you’re having a tough day. Besides, it’s a lot better when kids have a positive relationship with bath time too.

Make The Most Of Outside Spaces

If you are lucky enough to have a home that’s blessed with a garden space, it would be foolish not to make the most of it. It is particularly useful in this modern era where social interactions are somewhat limited. The backyard or deck can work wonders.

The choice of garden upgrades will vary from one family to the next. A BBQ pit is very popular while a jungle gym for young kids is great too. Of course, areas for enjoying sporting activities can work wonders too. The garden can also be used to teach kids about growing fruit and vegetables.

For the best results, you can add sliding doors to combine internal and external areas. This will turn the property into a perfect place for hosting friends and family. Likewise, kids can invite their pals over for safe and entertaining outdoor play.

Add Curb Appeal

The relationship with the property doesn’t start and end with what’s inside the four walls. Adding curb appeal can be equally impactful. It makes you take pride in the property and stand out from the neighborhood for all the right reasons.

While young kids might not worry too much, older children will. Not least because they want to impress their friends. A new mailbox, front lawn, driveway, or roof tiles are all great solutions. Painting the walls or the front door can have a positive impact too. Automated gates and a video doorbell will also add to the security measures.

When the property looks impressive from the outside, it puts you in a better mood when stepping inside. For this reason, as well as the prospect of keeping up appearances, you should not overlook this factor for a second.

Add Personal Touches

Finally, whatever you do, it’s vital to remember that you are creating a home rather than recreating a showhome or magazine. Don’t be afraid to use family photos, memorabilia, and other personal touches to your advantage.

This is your home – if your family feels comfortable, that’s all that truly matters.
