Ok, I made that sound a lot more dramatic than it really is, but I really am in Essence! Why? Back in June I attended the Dark & Lovely Ultimate Fashionista Event downtown at theWit hotel. It was an awesome event with a panel of experts in the fashion industry including beautiful actress LisaRaye McCoy. LisaRaye is mainly known for her role in The Players Club which put her on the map. She is also ex-wife of Michael Misick, former Premier of the Turks and Caicos Islands. She is a native Chicagoan and no stranger to Chitown events. I even spotted her at the Chosen Few House Picnic a couple of years ago.
I sat in the front row (media spot!) and even got to ask questions. They were full of good information and gave some awesome tips for always looking your best. She sure knows how to make sure that she always looks good and she passed some of those tips on to us. Some attendees posed and entered for a chance to be the new face of Dark & Lovely. I popped into the room not quite sure what I was up to. LOL!! I had no intention of actually trying for that, but it was fun anyway.
Fast forward to the October issue of Essence. A few days ago I got an email from a friend who said that she spotted me in the back of the Essence magazine. Not thinking about the event being connected at all (especially since it was months before), I thought that she must be mistaken and I replied “Uhh, I don’t think so”. She said “It sure looks just like you!” Once she explained that the photos were from this event I knew that it was indeed me and I ran out and purchased a copy.

So now I can officially say that I made it into Essence. Not because I’m somebody famous, not because I’m some beautiful model, not because I’m rich… but I just happened to be in the right place at the right time!. 🙂
