Guest Post: How to Make the Most of Your TV Setup

January 12, 2012 by Kris McDonald Leave a Comment

As I completed the redo of my girls’ bedroom, I was SO happy that I was finally able to use the flat panel wall mount that I had purchased 6 years before. The thing was in my cabinet collecting dust. I originally purchased it for use in my master bath where I was going to mount a TV. But, I decided a while ago that was not a good idea so it just sat unused. I got lucky in that it was the right size for the TV that I chose. And it makes is possible for my girls to watch TV while up in their loft beds without issue. A wall mount is just one way to get the most out of your TV setup. The below guest post gives us a couple more.

Do you have to crane your neck to see the TV, or do most of your family’s fights start when one person is standing right in front of the console? If so, it might be time for a new TV setup. A TV should be easy to see from all angles of the room. However, unless you are a serious couch potato, it shouldn’t be the center of attention. In other words, whether it’s on a wall mount or stand, a TV should be easy to see when you want to see it but not in your way when you don’t.

One of the best ways to get the most out of your TV setup is to think about what setup works for you. Wall mounts look great in the commercials, but in real life, there might be several reasons for a console. If you’re renting and your landlord doesn’t want you using a mount or if you have small children that need to sit a little closer, a stand can be best. Of course, wall mounts are also great if you have kids that love to kiss their favorite TV characters when the television set is in reach. A third option is always the swivel mount, which allows you to angle the TV towards one person or area of the room. This can be perfect for holiday get-togethers when only a section of the guests are into the football game.

Another way to make sure you get the most out of your TV setup is to think about the service or provider you use. Some TV services require a bunch of cords and boxes, while services like DirecTV use an outdoor satellite dish. If you don’t have a lot of outlets or room to place accessories, such as VCRs, DVD players or video game systems, you need to think about either constructing storage to hold them or going with a system that lets you easily hook these accessories up on a use-by-use basis.

If your current TV setup isn’t working for you, there’s no harm in trying a new one. Frequently, you can find trials of new services for low introductory prices, like these direct tv promotions. You might even find a solution that is perfectly comfortable for you. Just make sure to ask your family members first.
