In case you had not noticed winter is here! And boy has it been something else so far! I got lucky and I was able to slip away to the warmer climate of Las Vegas for a few days. But now that I’m back I am reminded of just how cruel Chicago winters can be. Sad that we are really only in the middle of winter. It has the potential to get bad again. Here in Chicago winter seems longer than all the other seasons, sigh…
With cold weather, snow, blizzards, and ice storms come staycations and sickness. Just last week Chicago Public Schools were actually closed for 2 days due to extreme temperatures. The actual air temperature was -14 degrees. The windchill was -45. Yes, you read that right. And this was after 3 days of snow that left us with over a foot of snow in most areas of Chicago. And you know what happens to snow when it gets that cold? It freezes. There was no reason that anyone, especially young children should be outside. Stay in where it is warm and safe until the coast is clear.
Also, unfortunately at this time of year kiddies (and adults) are more susceptible to sickness. This means that kids can end up home for a couple of days. And we know how quickly they can get bored!
Whatever the reason you are inside for an extended period Netflix can help. Here is a great list of movies provided by Netflix to keep your little ones laughing while snuggling.

1. Daddy Day Care
2. Honey, We Shrunk Ourselves
3. Hoodwinked Too!
4. Escape from Planet Earth
5. The Croods [coming to Netflix 1/29!]
6. Beverly Hills Chihuahua 2
7. Beverly Hills Chihuahua 3
Here are a few that show kiddies that even their favorite TV friends gets sick too:
In between movie marathons you can also choose to do crafts with your children. My girls love to crochet, and they would be quite content spending hours at a time crocheting while sick. My kids also love a good game of Monopoly. There is a board setup on the dining room table that has been there for about a month. They go back and forth and play a little more every few days. They also received a rainbow loom set for Christmas. My daughter is already asking for more rubber bands and c-clips!
Whatever your kid’s favorite crafts or games, keep a few on hand to keep them busy. That coupled with some great streaming content, some chicken noodle soup, and some TLC will have them feeling better in no time.
