No matter your age chances are that at some point in your life you got really excited about seeing the golden arches.
From the time that I can remember McDonald’s was always one of my favorite places to hang out and eat as a kid. In fact, I even have a photo of one of my very first birthday parties at McDonald’s!
It’s funny because when I was thinking about writing this post I realized that even into adulthood I have many, many happy memories of goings on at McDonald’s. Here I am with Ronald last year in New Orleans. 🙂
I have many memories of taking field trips to the Museum of Science in Industry here in Chicago. There is a McDonald’s restaurant on site. Our parents would send us on the field trip with money for lunch. We were very excited to eat there! Of course the alternative was a cold cut sandwich, so McDonald’s was a real treat!
Once I got past the Happy Meal stage (ok, I admit sometimes I still think of ordering them), my go to sandwich was the Big Mac. Back then I didn’t think that I could finish one. They seemed so huge. But the taste was so yummy that I would order them anyway. 🙂 Now when I see a Big Mac it does not seem quite so large. LOL! And I still do love them. I don’t have them as often as I used to, but when I do I’m in heaven.
Of course now that I am the mother to 4 kids I do occasionally make my way to McDonald’s to treat the kids. My boys still love Happy Meals. My girls are now 11 (and they both have bigger feet than I do!) so they have moved past that stage and on to ordering from the regular menu. They are into the Premium Crispy Chicken Classic Sandwiches and the Bacon Clubhouse Burger! Oh and they always want milkshakes! I am partial to the McCafe Iced Caramel Mochas myself. Although I can admit that I am absolutely addicted to the Frozen Strawberry Lemonade. Yummy!
However, despite all of the birthday parties and lunch dates in McDonald’s my favorite memory of taking them to there is one in which we never left the car! One morning we were in the busy McDonald’s drive through. A car pulled in from the opposite entrance and cut me off. I was steaming! I was mumbling to myself “Oh, you are just going to cut me off huh? I see how it is.” LOL! When it was my turn to pay the cashier said, “Did someone just cut you off?” I said, “Yes. He sure did.” She said “Well he felt bad so he paid for your food.” I was in shock! I blew my horn and yelled “Thank you!!” There were 5 of us in the car so my bill was like $27, but he paid it anyway! That small gesture made the rest of my day great. And now whenever I visit or pass by that McDonald’s I think about that day.
My kids and I paid a visit to McDonald’s not too long ago for a lunch break. I don’t know what it is about that place, but it just makes kids so happy!
Maybe it’s the World Famous Fries. Yes, that has to be it. I know that they make me very happy. They are called World Famous Fries for a reason!
What is your favorite memory of a visit to McDonald’s?
