Not too long ago I wrote about the fact that I am purging items from my home. So far this has been going very well! Well… ok, it has not been going all that well the past few weeks. Life has gotten in the way! However, I am happy to say that I have made some progress. In that post I posted a photo of my closet. It was packed with clothes, shoes, bags, and much more. Now? It is a different story! I have packed up 7 garbage bags full of stuff for donation. And I’m on a mission to find more! I’m very proud of myself. But, my bedroom is not the only area of my home that needs a purging. My home office is on the list as well. I spend more time in my office than I do any other part of my house, and sometimes it shows.

Because of the nature of my job my small office is filled to the brim with technology, photography equipment, printers, paper, paper, and more paper. Did I mention that there’s a lot of paper? And the paper is what I want to focus on today. It’s amazing how much accumulates! It must go! And it can happen fast. Paper just has a way of taking over. Bills, forms, kid’s graded papers, advertisements, and other random papers end up in stacks on my desk or floor waiting to be filed or disposed of. When I got my Fellowes 79Ci shredder I knew that it would sit right under my desk. All I have to do it turn around and shred away! Is it just me or is there something downright therapeutic about shredding paper??

I had an old shredder by another brand, however I killed it. It was not very well made. It was cheap. It got jammed and never recovered. I have not had any problems at all with my 79Ci. It can shred up to 16 pages at one time. And as long as you don’t try to stuff in more, it is 100% jam proof. I cannot tell you how much fun (yes, shredding is fun) that I have had clearing some clutter from my office. I have had it for a couple of months now and I have eliminated so much paper!! It feels incredible.

  • 100% Jam Proof System eliminates paper jams and powers through tough jobs

  • SafeSense® Technology stops shredder when hands touch the paper opening
  • Shreds 16 sheets per pass into 5/32” x 1-1/2” cross-cut particles (Security Level P-4)
  • Maximum run time: 20 on / 30 off
  • 6 gallon pull-out bin
  • For 1 user

I love the all-in-one design of the Fellowes shredders. With my old one I had to sit it on top of a garbage can. The 79Ci comes with it’s own enclosed waste container. All of the mess stays inside until you empty it. And it’s on wheels so it is very easy to move around when needed.

Shred Just About Everything

The Fellowes 79Ci allows you to shred CDs/DVDs, plastic credit cards, paper clips, staples, and junk mail. This means that you do not have to be bothered with too much sorting before shredding. I have tried shredding many things and so far it has taken everything that I could throw at it. I’m trying to get into the habit of shredding right away rather than letting paper pile up. And since my 79Ci makes shredding fun this is easy.

Protection From Identity Theft

Thieves can steal your identity in many, many ways… online, with rigged ATM machines, or by physically stealing sensitive documents. Don’t just throw receipts, utility bills, and credit card forms in the trash or recycle bin. They need to be shredded. But not all shredders destroy these documents completely. Shredders that cut just a straight line leave enough visible that it is possible for someone to piece it together using simple Scotch tape.

Since the Fellowes 79Ci is a cross cut shredder it creates strips that are only about 1.25″ x less than 1/4″. It would be a true act of patience and determination to try to make any sense of this. It does make great confetti though.

Shredders with a smaller cut size will help keep your information secure long after you throw the shredded paper away. The smaller the cut size, the higher the security level.

Summary

If you do not already have a cross cut shredder I highly recommend that you get one. And the Fellowes Powershred® 79Ci is a great choice for anyone who needs to dispose of sensitive documents. Priced around $165 from Amazon.com it is well worth every penny. You can easily shred up to 16 sheets of letter sized paper (watch the red lights!), DVDs, credit cards, and stacks of papers that include paper clips or staples without a problem.
