We have already established that I am a smartphone snob. And I love my Samsung Phones. I also need to have a very reliable phone signal when out and about. I was happy to check out the Galaxy S7 Edge on .
One of the first things that I did was install the Speedtest app so that I could see just how fast the Republic Wireless 4G LTE network is. The result was pretty impressive. I got 24.03 Mbps download speeds and 10.06 Mbps upload speeds. Not bad, not bad at all. This is plenty of speed for browsing the web, responding to emails, uploading photos, or even streaming videos. I also install all of my social accounts, so that I could start taking photos, and posting them from the phone. I already knew that the camera is excellent, so I could not wait to try it out.
What is WiFi First?
Not everyone needs unlimited data. Some only use a small amount of data each month, and might spend most of their time indoors connected to WiFi. Republic Wireless phones run on a unique WiFi first technology which can save you money by making sure that you do not go over your data limit. Unlike other carriers that rely on you to make sure that your WiFi is turned on, Republic Wireless has their own app which runs when you turn on your phone. It monitors the network and connects to available WiFi networks whenever possible. If most people are anything like my household, mobile devices get a fair amount of usage when inside. WiFi first will look for a connection in your home, at work, the library, the mall, or anywhere else that you connect to WiFi. If it cannot find a WiFi connection, it will then connect to the mobile network. This helps you use less data and not go over your data plan.
And of course based on my speed test above, if you are using mobile data, it is fast and reliable.
Coverage
Looking at the Coverage map for Republic Wireless, they have you covered! As you can see 4G LTE covers a large part of the United States. To see if your area is covered, check the coverage map on the website.
The Phones
I received the awesome, beautiful Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. I had used an S7 before (I passed it on to my son), so I knew that I would love the S7 Edge. The S7 Edge is one of Samsung’s best selling phones. The 5.5″ Quad HD screen is clear, and bright. It also has a 12MP camera, so you can take great photos wherever you are. The MicroSD slot supports up to a 200GB, so that you will not run out of space.
The phone is also IP68 Certified. This means that it is water resistant for up to 30 minutes in up to 5 feet of water.
It has a fingerprint sensor, and heart rate monitor.
For full specs, check out the page for the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge.
Here are a couple of awesome photos that I took with my S7 Edge.
As you can see the colors are very vibrant, and the picture is clear.
Other phones available include great Android phones from Motorola and Huawei to fit a wide variety of budgets. Phone prices range from only $99 to $599.
The Plans
Choosing the best phone plan can be very, very intimidating. You may not feel that you need (or can afford) an unlimited plan. You may want a different plan for your kids since they are mostly in the house and can use WiFi. Plan prices start at only $15 for a cell plan with no data. This allows your kids to make calls and send texts, and use WiFi only data. Need data? No problem, data plans range from $20 – $45 a month for up to 4GB of data. Still not enough? Once you get your phone you can select a plan with up to 10GB of data.
