Learn From the Pros with Best Buy Photography Workshops

July 28, 2018 by Kris McDonald Leave a Comment

Although I don’t do it as much as I used to, because… life, work, and the pursuit of money… I love photography. For many years I have been a semi-pro. Why semi? Because I would never compare myself to some of the awesome pro photographers out there that are killing the game. I mean, I’m good…. but I am not “fly across the world because I’ve been specially requested at a shoot for Beyonce good!” And, the past couple of years have been so busy in other parts of my life that photography has been put on the back burner.

The only way to get really good at your craft is to learn and practice. There is always more to learn about photography. And Best Buy wants to help. And the partnership is perfect. You have probably gone into Best Buy and gazed at all of the cameras and accessories. I know I have. But, contrary to popular belief, purchasing a fancy camera not does automatically make you a photographer. You need to have a good eye, good composition skills, and you need to know how to operate your camera.

Best Buy is offering workshops for new photographers and intermediate photographers which are lead by photography experts. The workshops for new photographers are FREE! you cannot beat that deal. Themed workshops include back to school photography, concert photography, Halloween photography, and holiday card photography. You will learn basic photography principles, how to capture great photos and more.

NEW Best Buy Photography Workshop Tours – for Intermediates

Best Buy kicked it off with these workshops which were available in Seattle, San Diego, Houston, Atlanta, Tampa, New York City and Minneapolis on 7/28. These half-day Photography Workshop Tours gave participants the chance to work with pro photographers & the Best Buy Camera Experience Shop experts.  For $50 participants were able to test and try an array of lenses & accessories, they learned to think like a pro & walked away with some amazing photos. They also received a bag of camera goodies and were entered to win Best Buy gift cards or a dream photography package!

Free In-Store Photography Workshops – for Beginners

If you are just getting started or you want to improve your photo game but don’t feel that you are quite ready for the Tours then this is for you. Start with one of the free in-store photography workshops! The session is only 2 hours long, so you do not have to commit to a whole day. These free workshops will cover photography basics & allow you one on one time with the Camera Experience Shop Experts who will walk through your camera’s settings. Once you’re done, take the next step and join one of the upcoming Photography Workshop Tours on 10/20 and 1/19. Head over to the Best Buy site and sign-up to be notified when registration goes live.

These workshops are all possible thanks to Best Buy’s Camera Experience Shop. It’s like visiting a specialty camera store, right in the middle of your local Best Buy!

I am definitely signing up for the workshops in the Chicago area. As I said, there is always more to learn. And participating in workshops and going on tours keeps the photography bug alive when you may not have time to get out for fun shooting during your daily life.

Here are a Few More Tips From Me for Getting Better at Photography

Know Your Camera

Read the book and look for online tips and videos about your specific camera model. You cannot shoot a dang thing if you do not know how to use your camera. Auto mode is NOT appropriate for every shoot. There’s great info out there for just about every camera.

Take an Online Classe

In addition to getting out and joining in-person workshops, there are plenty of online classes available. Look for ones specific to what you want to do. There are classes available whether you want to be a wedding photography, portrait photography, adventure photographer, and more.

Join Facebook Groups

There are awesome FB groups where you can commiserate with other photographers, get tips and info, learn about happenings in your area, and share photos.

Take a Walking Tour

In your own town, or if you happen to be going on vacation, look for walking tours in the area. This is a great way to learn, test the functions and features of your camera, and see the sites.

Click on over to the Best Buy Photography Workshop page and see what might be happening in your city.

Happy picture taking!
