Not too long ago, I took a quick one-day trip to Columbus, Ohio to visit to kick off my participation as a Huntington Bank Goal Getter. I had a blast! I met some awesome people and I am looking forward to what the future brings.
Now I admit that I was not all that familiar with Huntington Bank before my visit. I had seen them around, but had never stepped foot in a branch. As my visit progressed my knowledge and respect for the bank grew and grew.
We took a tour of the first Huntington Bank branch which is an absolutely beautiful building. It was constructed from 1926-1929, so as you can imagine the look is very classic and full of beauty.
Other than being impressed with the building, I was most impressed with the people, the culture, and the mission of Huntington Bank. I have dealt with a few banks in my time, and I could actually feel the difference as I was listening. Huntington has a true culture of making customers happy.
One thing I noticed right away is that Huntington Bank does not “talk” like a big bank. It was clear when listening to Huntington that they are different, they value every customer, not just the ones with tons of money.
That personal touch came across in our visit with these very cool family caricatures that they had created for us. They got it right down to the shoes and glasses!
We heard stories of how bank employees went above and beyond to help some customers with issues that had nothing to do with banking. It’s that kind of mentality that I appreciate! I’ve been known as one who loves to help people. Sometimes I have a problem with saying no. Of course, I cannot always, but if I have the means, I do what I can. And coming across a bank with this same thought process was a match made in heaven!
Opening an Account at Huntington Bank
I decided to open an account to get the full effect of being a Huntington Bank customer. I visited a local branch in Chicago to open the account, and enjoyed the personal touch. Everyone was super nice, and it did not take that long.
Here in the Chicago area, there are 10 branches in different parts of the city and suburbs. I visited the branch in Orland Park, IL, and met with a banker. We went through a series of questions to match me with the right account for me. Questions included information about my goals, what type of transactions I would be making, and whether or not I would use the account with my business. I settled on the Asterisk-Free Checking® Account. It’s free to open, free to maintain and there are no maintenance fees, or a minimum monthly balance requirement.
Asterisk-Free Checking® Features
- No monthly maintenance fees
- No minimum balance requirements
- 24-Hour Grace®
- Mobile banking and deposits
- Email and text alerts (message and data rates apply)
- Online bill pay
One thing that stood out to me that really made me think that Huntington is different is the 24-Hour Grace® Overdraft Fee Relief, which gives you more time to make a deposit in order to avoid an Overdraft fee, if by chance you overdraw. It is available with all Huntington consumer checking, savings, and money market deposit accounts (you can learn more at www.huntington.com/grace). Because, let’s face it… as hard as we try, sometimes things do happen! I love this.
Of course, you can also link your savings or money market account to your checking account and give permission for transfers in the event of an overdraw.
The Huntington Bank Mobile App
So far, I have been very happy with my account. I live on my phone, so I do just about everything using the mobile app. The Hub is the main screen of the mobile app and contains tools that give you a snapshot of your account. Here you get a snapshot of your account, a Spend analysis, which categorizes your past spending, a Spend Setter SM tool to help you set monthly spending limits by category, and a Look Ahead Calendar SM that allows you to look ahead at upcoming expenses.
The payment screen allows me to pay bills, or send money with Zelle®, which I seem to use a lot these days. The mobile app also allows me to make deposits, which is use! I love being able to deposit checks from wherever I am.
I can also transfer funds not only to other Huntington Bank accounts, but my accounts at other banks as well. This is extremely useful for moving funds if you use different accounts for different purposes.
I also love that I can use Fingerprint Login which saves me the hassle of trying to type in a password when in a hurry to check my balance.
I’m still in the process of transferring a lot of my current banking functions to Huntington Bank, so stay tuned for more! If you are looking for a better banking experience, visit to apply for an account now.
