Stumped for that perfect gift for your photography friend or family member? You’re not alone? While any gift at all will likely be much appreciated. Being able to include their interests or support their dreams of making it as a photographer can add an extra special layer or meaning to the gift and show that you care about them and what they love by investing in paying attention to their hobbies or career, whether their a hobbyist photographer or a professional memory maker and visual artist because good photography is an art.

With this in mind, what gifts should you consider for those who love capturing the world around them on film and preserving small and big moments to be cherished for years to come? The joy of photography is a gift that freezes time and evokes cherished memories, making it a truly special gift for any occasion.

Drones

Drones allow people to see the world from a different angle without their feet leaving terra firma. By elevating their camera to new heights without having to scale buildings to hang out of the side of planes or helicopters, AKA Tom Cruise in Mission Impossible, they can transform the pictures they take and the subjects they capture. Whether you Buy the DJI Mini 4K drone or opt for a different model, choosing a drone as a gift can elevate someone’s skill set and allow them to explore new options when it comes to photography, and their capabilities will be a fantastic gift to give someone.

Accessories

You can purchase a wealth of photography accessories that will make any budding Annie Leibowitz or Ansel Adams giddy with pleasure.

Accessories can be fun or practical, so whether you opt for the uber practical camera backpack that comes with added comfort and safety features for added protection when traveling with camera equipment or you choose the fun accessories such as tripods with flexible legs, allowing them to be positioned in unusual places for fun angle shots, there are so many great ideas you can choose from and here are few camera accessories that can come in super handy.

  • Camera straps
  • Cleaning equipment included lens blowers
  • Carry cases
  • Lens covers
  • Backdrops

Photography Trips or Tours

Time spent dedicated to doing what they love? Who wouldn’t like that? A photography trip or tour is one in which the sole focus is to immerse yourself in all things picture-taking with the sole aim of developing skills and exposing (pun intended) people to different aspects of photography, secrets, and environments to help them gain more skills and improve their ability to capture the perfect shot regardless of the subject or conditions and the environment.

Whether you book them an evening trip to one of the sights in their local area or book a photography trip to New York or further afield, such as Iceland, this is an amazing experience for anyone at any skill level. These trips provide a unique opportunity to learn from experienced photographers, explore new environments, and practice different techniques, all of which can significantly enhance their photography skills and broaden their portfolio.

Courses

But they’re already making a living working as photographers. Why do they need a course? Everyone can benefit from brushing up on their skills from time to time, regardless of where they are currently at. Whether you book photography for beginners course or you book a course that is outside of their current area of focus, such as a portrait-taking course for those primarily taking action shots or vice versa, or you explore portrait photography to the joy of wildlife photography, there will be much to learn.

Conventions or Meet and Greets

This might not be readily available, but let’s say they have someone they look up to in the photography world, and that person just so happens to be hosting a workshop or seminar, for example, or just a meet and greet in an intimate setting to answer Q and As and meet fans, this can make the ideal gift to enable them to meet their heroes. Or let’s say they have a love for attending conventions like Comic Con, but they love taking pictures, too. Combining both by buying a ticket so they can practice on real-life subjects to build a portfolio and kill two birds with one stone, or should that be shoot? Definitely something to consider!

Personalized Gifts

If you want to add something extra special to your gift, then adding a personalized touch can really elevate what you decide to purchase. Why not look at having their prints turned into a book for them to treasure for themselves or even show clients? Blow up a favorite image of yours they took onto a canvas print. Have their name or business added to items like bags, straps, or clothing? These personalized gifts can truly show your thoughtfulness and appreciation for their craft.

Personalized gifts are always great ideas regardless of a person’s interests and hobbies. Whether they’re carving out a career or have an exceptional talent for this hobby but don’t go pro, being able to celebrate the work they do by turning it into something special they can use, or treasure can really be the piece de resistance, so to speak.

Fun Gifts

No one is above an excellent old novelty gift; event photographers can enjoy those fun and quirky gifts.

Have you seen the Lego camera set? This is a great gift for photographers and Lego lovers alike. Or maybe you can turn their snaps into cartoons to create wall art for them. Do you buy disco lights for their studio fun accessories for photoshoots, or do you opt for those novelty phone attachments that can turn devices into makeshift DSLRs?

Other options include the ever-popular “lens” mug or coaster, clothing, or even ring lights that can be added to their phones or cameras on the go.

Practical Gifts

While we covered accessories above, your practical gifts for photographers include those slightly more boring but essential purchases that come in ever so handy. These include things like buying an external SSD for them to write their images, a memory card or memory card holder for them to use, extra lenses, lens cases, softboxes, and even spare batteries for cameras.

These items can often be costly, but if you want to support someone who is invested in their camera and is building up their photography skills, these more practical gifts show you care about their passions so they can facilitate a better experience when taking shots by helping them grow their skills and expand their capabilities.

Subscriptions

Lastly, why not look at what types of subscriptions you can buy to help them grow their photography skills or business? It could be a subscription to editing software such as Adobe if they use this. It could also be photography magazine subscriptions, subscriptions to a website, or other types of software they use. Take a look at what is on offer and see what benefits it can bring before considering it as your gift.

Choosing the perfect gift for your photography-loving family member or friend doesn’t need to be as simple as you think it might be. Sure, some research is required to see what they already have, what they want, and what will be more. But there are so many options for you to consider when choosing the perfect gift for the budding hobbyist photographer or your ever-professional loved one forging a career for themselves.
