You might remember hearing that AeroGarden was going out of business. It was just back in October 2024 that AeroGarden announced that the would be shutting down at the end of 2024. Well, get ready to do a happy plant dance! In a surprise turn of events, a Christmas Eve announcement on their website and Facebook page states that they are coming back this spring!

Now, of course this announcement is what many of ue hoped for. This is awesome news for a few reasons. First, it means those of us that love AeroGardens can keep growing fresh herbs, veggies, and flowers right in our homes all year round. Second, it shows that someone cared enough to try again. Time may tell us what happened, or not.
Of course there will always be the conspiracy theorists that say that the whole announcement was fake to get sales… but really? This happens all the time. Over the past several years many companies facing hard times have announced their closure only to be saved at the last minute, bailed out by investors, or bought out by another company. I do not yet know the details of what happened here. But, whatever it is, I’m glad.
The AeroGarden story states that they originally launched on March 1, 2006 after 3 years of testing and adapting NASA-tested aeroponic technology into a simple, low-cost product for the mass consumer market. The first AeroGarden was launched on March 1, 2006. Scotts Miracles purchased them in 2020 after 7 years of investing.
Over 20 years later AeroGarden remains the top name in the hydroponics niche. But… competition is fierce!
So… What will be interesting to see is if they will relaunch offering the same products they were offering before, or if they will start fresh with a new line-up. I am really not sure. But, I do know that there were concerns about competing with the many other hydroponics companies now on the market. There are so many options out there now, it is hard to know what to choose. Many of them do not live up to the AeroGarden quality at all. But, many consumers do not know this. So, they see a $35 hydroponic garden on Amazon and they fall for it. And then there is the range of larger vertical gardens that they could not yet compete with. Many of us that caught the hydro bug have gone this route as well.
But, for many of us AeroGarden will always be the OG of indoor gardening and the brand that we turn to first for countertop hydroponics.
Now, if you follow me on YouTube or Facebook, you know that I am not married to one brand. I have expanded my hydroponic horizons into vertical gardens and larger gardens like the Rise, Lettuce Grow, and Gardyn. However, I still love and use my AeroGardens! I still have at least a dozen AeroGardens in production around my home, and many more on the sidelines. And when spring seed starter rolls around, I will be using as many AeroGarden seed starting kits as possible to start my outdoor garden seeds. I also have several AeroGarden 45w panel grow lights that I use once I transfer my seedlings. Interesting in doing that? Check my Guide to Starting Outdoor Garden Seeds in your AeroGarden.
And you better believe if they come with some new systems with great features I will have to get my hands on it!
