Your office is the face of your business – in other words, the second a client walks through your door, they’re going to be making judgments (even if they don’t realize it), and they’ll instantly get a feeling about whether they think your business is professional, well-organized, welcoming, and whether or not they can trust you… Do they actually want to do business with you after all?
If your office feels cold, confusing, or just generally uninviting, you could be losing clients before your meeting even begins, and that’s going to be hard to turn around. The good news is that it doesn’t take much to make your office so much better, and ensure it feels warm, professional, and client-friendly. With that in mind, keep reading to find out more about what you can do to make it happen.
Make A Good First Impression
If you’ve ever walked into a space and felt uncomfortable and awkward because you didn’t know where to go or the reception desk was empty and you didn’t know what to do next, you’ll know it’s not a great feeling and it can really affect how you feel about the people you’re meeting.
That’s why you need to make sure your entrance is clear and welcoming and, of course, obvious. It’s also good to have a neat, professional reception desk (and a member of staff) is you’ve got the room and the budget. If reception isn’t an option, good office signs pointing clients in the right direction – literally – are a fantastic option to help people feel more comfortable when they arrive.
Comfort Is Key
No one wants to get to your office and then have to sit on an uncomfortable chair or be in a space with bad lighting that’s too hot or too cold – that can definitely give them a bad impression of you, which is the last thing you’ll want.
Think objectively about your office and whether it’s comfortable enough. Yes, it might look fashionable and modern, but that’s got to come after comfort – if the chairs look great but feel awful, they’re the wrong ones. Other good ideas to make the office just feel more pleasant include having some plants around, keeping the temperature at a good level, and adjusting the lighting so it feels as natural as possible.
Keep It Clean
Disty desks, overflowing bins, and coffee cups strewn all around… it’s not a good look and it certainly doesn’t tell people you’re professional and take pride in your work. A cluttered, messy office gives totally the wrong impression, and it isn’t something you’ll want your clients to see – plus, it’s not a great atmosphere and environment to work in if you want to be as productive and focused as possible (the same goes for your team).
The fix is a simple one – have a daily clean-up routine. That could include things like wiping down surfaces, emptying bins, and generally dusting around or vacuuming if need be. And why not have a nice air freshener in the office as well? Just make sure it’s not too overpowering as that can do more harm than good.
