4 Things That Could Need A Refresh In Your New (Older) Home

Getting the keys to your new home is an exciting step, but if your ‘new’ place has seen many years, or many owners, then a little refresh could be in order. Moving into your new place will give you a chance to put your stamp on things, but it’s also a time to make some improvements to keep your home looking its best. Where should you start first? Here are four things that could need a refresh in your new home.

1. Flooring

One of the first things many people choose to change about their new home is the flooring. Fresh floors can make a home instantly feel more like your own, while giving you a suitable base to add other decorative elements. It can also mean replacing damaged or stained floors, helping your home feel new again. Spend time choosing the best type of flooring for your home to help you find the most suitable solutions for each room.

2. Windows and doors

Windows generally need replacing every 15-20 years, while doors need replacing between 10 and 15 years. Replacing your windows and doors can help improve the insulation in your home, making it more energy-efficient while preventing issues such as damp and mold. A specialist replacement company like Window Nation can replace windows, while recommending the most suitable windows for your home. New windows and doors can also transform the look of your home, making it look more modern, and potentially increasing its value too.

3. Heating

Heating technology is evolving fast, and if the heating system in your new home is several years old, it may be time to look at an alternative. New heating systems are designed to heat homes efficiently, while saving energy, making them a worthwhile investment. Call a heating service to discuss your options, including underfloor heating that could be the perfect addition to your new home.

4. Plumbing

Plumbing is another element of your home that will need replacing after a while. An older plumbing system could be at risk of low water pressure, leaks and more – potentially causing a lot of damage to your home. Investing in new plumbing could help you waste less water, and improve the water quality in your home. While this could be a costly upgrade, it could be done as part of a bathroom renovation or extension to your home, helping you make further improvements that will make your home feel more like your own.

Moving to a new home brings so many exciting opportunities to decorate and renovate, but it’s important to prioritize your improvements. Focusing on the necessary works, like upgrading your windows and heating, can ensure the structural elements are taken care of, before making way for the more cosmetic elements. These key improvements will not only modernize your home, but future-proof it too – increasing its value and helping you get the most from your investment. Tackling these essential updates first will help you create a comfortable, efficient home that’s ready for the personal touches that will make it truly yours.
