Smart Self-Care Tips That Suit Your Life As A Working Mom

When people think about self-care, they typically then think about spa days and bubble baths. This isn’t particularly the case when you are balancing school pick-ups, meetings, and dozens of other things each day. For any working mom, self-care has to be a realistic and functional part of life. Truly caring for yourself means what actually restores you – big or small. It doesn’t have to be perfect, but it should be an enjoyable and consistent part of your existence.

It’s all about making self-care a positive necessity that supports everything you do. It certainly shouldn’t feel like a chore or a tedious task. If you are running on empty, everything becomes a lot harder. When you have all the resources, everything around you becomes a lot simpler. From work to parenting and even resting, you should always look to put yourself in the best possible position. You shouldn’t put too much pressure on yourself to feel more balanced – it’s all about finding simple tools that reinforce your idea of balance. Self-care can be small and seemingly insignificant if you want it to be. Here are a few tips that could help you as a working mom:

Transitions Can Be Micro-Rests

Moments between your tasks can become minute-long resets. You may have just put the phone down, for instance – during this small window, you can close your eyes and breathe deeply. Listen to the silence and maybe even stretch. It may seem ridiculous at times, but they can act as micro-chargers. They signal to your body that it’s time to shift gears. Something as insignificant as this could help you to refocus.

Automating One Little Decision Per Day

Physical tasks obviously drain us over time, but mental baggage does so even quicker. Choose something in your life that reoccurs, and automate it. From meal planning to document prep, a digital planner or piece of software could save so much stress. The idea is to remove friction from the struggles you’re already dealing with. With this kind of clarity in front of you, you will conserve energy. You can immediately invest your energy into things that actually need significant attention during the day.

Learn Something Useful Now And Again

Of course, the learning you will do will revolve around your job or parenting. This can zap your energy quickly, too. Sign up for a short course in something that actually matters to you. By doing so, you can reclaim a chunk of energy and happiness. From creative writing to Excel training courses, learning new, exciting things can make a big difference in your life. You may feel more productive as you are learning through your own curiosity. There’s no obligation that drags you down.

Don’t Forget To Ask For Help

So many working moms will wait until burnout to ask for help. Whether it’s down to pride or embarrassment, it’s wise to flip that script. Create a system with your partner or even your kids in order to share the load. You are not a failure if you ask for help – you are being smart and more sustainable.
