LeapFrog MyRobot Friend iOS App Review

March 11, 2013 by Kris McDonald Leave a Comment

I love games. I don't like all games though. I love puzzle games that make me think. If you browse my iPad you would see that. And yes… I admit that some games that are created for kids are very enjoyable for adults too. I found that out when I sat down to write this review. The LeapFrog My Robot Friend app is geared for kids ages 9 and up, and ummm 38. ๐Ÿ™‚

My Robot Friend

The game is centered around an adorable little robot, Alpha One. Your job is to guide him through a maze of boxes to get to the treasure. But, you can't just do that using your fingers or by swiping the screen like you might imagine. You have to use your brain and guide him using simple math and tools based on cards.

The first few levels are simple. There is basically one clear path, and all of the cards include nothing but positive numbers. You select the card based on the number of spaces that you would like your robot to move. As the games moves on, obstacles like huge stuffed animals get in your way. But never fear… you can move them using rockets. Once they are out of the way, you can safely get past and make your way to the treasure.

Also, there are negative number cards introduced that make the robot move backwards. All these things work in conjunction to move your robot around the maze and connect coins and treasure. As the levels go higher, the mazes, and the moves get harder.

Do really well and complete a world, and you get to have a dance party! Choose a song, choose some dance moves, and watch him go. The dance party is one of 3 mini-games included.

You can also use the coins that you have earned to buy your robot a new outfit.

LeapFrog's My Robot Friend has room for 4 profiles. You won't have to fight with those in your house about whose game it is. ๐Ÿ™‚ Although it is made for kids, and mine do enjoy it, I am loving it. I love the challenge of counting and lining up the cards to make it all work together. It reminds me of setting up chain reaction cards and knocking them down to see if it makes it all the way to the end.

The My Robot Friend app is available in the Apple App Store for $3.99.
