Samsung Showcase Side by Side Refrigerator Review

A few months ago I wrote the post My House is Falling Apart & Plotting Against Me. In that post I talked about how in the past few years my GE refrigerator broke down twice. The timing on last year’s break down absolutely sucked. I was in the midst of planning a wedding, I had trips planned, school was in full force, and I had no emergency funds to replace it with the type of fridge that I would have needed. I heard about a lease program at a trusted retailer, so I decided to give it a try. Now this could be another post, but I’ll just say to stay away from such lease programs from a certain major retailer. The monthly payments were ridiculous, but I had to do what I had to do since I could not buy a new fridge at the time. Now believe it or not THAT fridge had issues too!! After a power outage that ice maker stopped working correctly. It would still make ice, but it would not dispense it. It would go through the motions, make the noise, but the ice would not come out. Sigh…

So when I found out that thanks to the wonderful Best Buy Ambassador program I would have the opportunity to review a new Samsung appliance I almost turned cartwheels. I knew right away that I would go for the side-by-side refrigerator. My previous refrigerator was a french door and while I loved the look of it I found it too hard to deal with reaching down into the freezer to find things. Items would pile up and whatever was on the bottom might be there for a while! Plus it was hard to clean under the freezer drawer.

The Samsung Showcase 28.7 Cu. Ft. Side-by-Side Refrigerator is available in full-size, or counter-depth. While counter-depth was tempting, I went for the full-size for the extra space that I know is needed to feed my large household. It sticks out, but it is worth it! And it looks great in my kitchen!

I have been SO happy with this unit. With several drawers and adjustable shelves, it has more freezer and refrigerator space than I have ever had in any other! I love it.

Before I decided which unit I wanted, I visited my closest Best Buy to check out these beauties in person. At first glance it is such a pretty machine! I was intrigued by the Showcase door, but at first I wondered “Hmm… what is the point?” Well after using it for a couple of months I get the point!

Instead of a traditional deli drawer, the Showcase has unique in door shelves that move and slide. This allows you to store deli meats, cheese, and condiments in a very easy to reach place.

No more digging through the fridge to find what you are looking for. It is all right there! And most importantly I can store things that my kids reach for often on the door. They can open the Showcase door, quickly grab it and close the door. The shelf now deemed as the “cheese and meat shelf” easily slides out for quick reach. This eliminates what I call the “fridge stare”. There is no need to open the fridge, stare into it, and dig around looking for a snack. The shelves and drawers also provide plenty of space for soda cans, tall bottles, milk, and juice containers.

This design is more useful because the Samsung Showcase Refrigerator is designed to improve the way you store food through an innovative two-door system.  The exterior Showcase door gives you instant access to the items you use most often, while the InnerCase still let’s you store larger food items, fruits, veggies, and plenty of leftovers.

I love that the freezer section has 3 large drawers for storing frozen items like meat, vegetables, or popsicles. This is in addition to several shelves which fit a ton of frozen goods.

Another thing that I love about the Samsung Showcase is the ease of changing the water filter. On my previous refrigerator I couldn’t get the little door open to change the filter without feeling like I was going to break at. Even my husband had a hard time. On the Showcase the filter is out in plain view and all you do is give it a firm turn and it pops out! Genius!

I am truly loving my new Samsung Showcase Side-by-Side refrigerator just as I love all of the other Samsung tech in my home. They definitely set a high standard when it comes to home appliances complete with all of the bells and whistles. Check out the Best Buy Samsung Appliance site for more great appliances and to make your pick. The Samsung Showcase line of refrigerators is currently available for $2194.

Disclosure: The Samsung Showcase Refrigerator was provided to me by Best Buy for this review. All opinions are my own.
