5 Benefits of Having Smart HVAC in Your Home

February 18, 2019 by Kris McDonald Leave a Comment

Are you sick of listening to me talk about my smart home yet? If so, too bad. This is the 21st century, and smart home tech is big. We’ve been in our home for 2 years today! Over this time I have slowly added more smart home products to make our home more functional. A major part of what I love is that my Aprilaire system integrates seamlessly thanks to my smart HVAC system with 8920W Wi-Fi connected thermostat with IAQ technology. Here are some of the useful things that I can do.

Adjust The Temperature with the Sound of Your Voice

Whether you choose to use Google Home, or Amazon Echo, you can control your Aprilaire thermostat with the sound of your voice. You can adjust the temperature up or down, turn the system off or on. I would love to see more functionality added to control the other features like the humidifier.

Adjust the Temperature When Away From Home

Sometimes when we travel, we have a friend stop in and check on the house. I will never forget years ago when I was a newbie homeowner, we left and turned everything off! We were only gone for a week, but we turned off the water heater, the air conditioner… I mean everything! Our friend was only supposed to stop by and check on the place, but he decided to stay a couple of days. We laughed about it later! But it would have been awesome to be able to control it remotely and turn everything back on for him. Well now, I can do a lot of that from my phone. Instead of him fumbling around, he could just ask me to turn the up or air up or down.

Create a Routine Using Google Home

Based on what I said above, it may save you some money to turn your thermostat down when you are away for an extended period. Using Google Home you can create a route called, On Vacation. This routine could be used to turn the porch lights on at dusk, turn on one of the lights inside the house, and adjust your thermostat to save energy.

Control Your Smart HVAC from your Smartphone

Having smart HVAC means being able to turn your temp up or down with your voice or phone is one thing. But, with some thermostats, you may still have to get up and walk to it to control advances features. With my Aprilaire system I can control everything from my smartphone. I have a screen for temperature, humidity, fresh air, and clean air. I can also completely turn the system off or on with my phone…. even when not home!

Get System Alerts

Using the Aprilaire app you can set parameters to get alerts when the humidity is too high or too low, or when the temperature rises above a certain amount. This is useful for days when you might decide to open up the windows because it’s nice outside in the summer. But, if the humidity in the home gets too high, it is bad for things like hardwood floors, so being alerted it a must.

It’s time to upgrade your system to smart HVAC! Visit the Aprilaire website and use the discount code KRIS o get 20% off your purchase!
