Thank you to Verizon Wireless for sponsoring this post.
We have been hearing talk of 5G LTE coming for a while. Well, the wait it over. It’s here! Verizon has launched 5G LTE service in many markets. This means that you will have the power and speed of the Verizon network behind you, no matter where you are.
In addition to 5G LTE for your smartphone, you may also be able to get Verizon 5G LTE Home! Have you ever visited someone’s home, attempted to use their Internet and quickly realized, oh my goodness this is slow! I have… many, many times! In my IT business, I often have to visit homes to fix computers and sometimes this requires downloading software. There is nothing like trying to do my job efficiently, but having to wait and wait for software to download slows the job down.
Slow Internet can also make it hard to stream your favorite shows. Buffering is no fun. Verizon 5G is here to help. I can tell you with honesty that I absolutely LOVE my Galaxy Note 9 on Verizon.
What is Verizon 5G LTE?
I can remember my first smartphone. It was not fast… at all! But, I thought it was great anyway. It didn’t even have the features that we rely on now like SMS texting, voicemail, and web browsing. Those were added later. And even after those were added… it still wasn’t all that fast.
Let’s go back even further and talk about how “fast” home Internet used to be! My first modem was a 1200 baud modem. For those not familiar (young folks!) a modem was a little box that plugged into your phone line and connected to your computer to provide Internet access. 1200 baud is equivalent to 0.0012Mbps. In comparison, what I have at home now is capable of speeds of up to 250Mbps. That is quite a difference. LOL! Can you imagine trying to download a movie at 0.0012Mbps?
And now 5G takes us even farther and faster! 5G is the fifth generation of wireless technology. And now thanks to Verizon not only can we use this smoking fast network in our homes, but to power our phones, too. And it is fast! 4G, which is what most of us have on our smartphones now, is capable of speeds up to 60Mbps. However, 5G offers speeds around 300Mbps, or up to 20x faster than most 4G LTE networks. Wow! This means faster downloads, streaming, music, and more.
And let me tell you, I work a couple of gig jobs and I hear many people who use other carriers complain about signal strength, complete loss of signal, and GPS problems when working in certain areas. I have had absolutely no issues. My signal is always strong, and helps me get my job done without fail. Now that I am back on Verizon, I am staying put.
Verizon now has several 5G capable phones available. I know which one I have my eye on! Take a look below and decide which ones interests you.
Verizon 5G Features
- Get whole-home coverage – While the term 5G may make you think “phone”, Verizon 5G Home Internet is complete coverage for all over your home.
- Great coverage for smart home devices – I have a confession. I just did a quick count in my head, and we have a whopping 36 smart home devices in our home. And that’s not even all. I probably missed counting something, and I have not even completed setting up our smart home yet. Now, this is a mix of things… kitchen appliances, light bulbs, speakers, media devices, Hubs, security cameras, and more. In order for all of things things to work together they must be backed by a strong network. You want to be able to control everything when you need to, without hiccups.
- Fast Connection When on the Go – As mentioned above, my smartphone makes me money! And for this I need to have a strong connection… at all times! Verizon 5G LTE keeps you connected.
How Do I Get Verizon 5G LTE at home?
Right now, Verizon 5G LTE is available in limited areas of Los Angeles, CA; Sacramento, CA; Houston, TX; and Indianapolis, IN. If you are in one of these areas, you can check the availability in your area.
Once you sign up, a technician will visit your home and deliver free white glove installation. They will install a receiver near a window. This receives the 5G signal from the neighborhood wireless node, and delivers it to a router inside your home. And if you need Wi-Fi extenders to expand your signal to the far corners of your home, they will install them for free.
Head over to the Verizon Wireless 5G site for more information and to see if it’s available in your area.
